Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Wounds Multiple Gunshot Victims in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Law enforcement in Sacramento are examining a violent incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Park while deputies were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of an estimated several hundred individuals.

Before the Gunfire

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the Arden-Arcade park at approximately half past six in the evening after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Shortly after, another report was received mentioning a reported physical confrontation happening within the park grounds.

A law enforcement helicopter was sent to survey the area but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, it was apparent that a crowd of several hundred had come together at the location without any permit or approval.

When the Shots Rang Out

Deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems telling the assembled crowd to vacate the area. About 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.

As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The rapid succession of shots sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies swiftly started looking for those injured.

Four Gunshot Victims

Ultimately, four gunshot victims were located with gunshot injuries. The four individuals — consisting of one woman and three men ranging in age through their in their mid to late twenties — were brought to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel reported that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. According to authorities, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento fire crews provided support and aided in treating shooting victims at the scene.

What Investigators Found

The bulk of the shooting was believed to have occurred adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot store on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators found additional shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Projectile impacts were observed in the wrought iron perimeter fencing alongside the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries showed that at least one of the shooters unauthorized gathering shooting Sacramento had been shooting in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives kept processing evidence well into the night.

Suspects Detained

Reports confirmed over police scanner frequencies showed that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in the Solano County area. Four suspects were detained. Sheriff's units were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for formal questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed that two shooters had been involved.
